The Islamic Republic of Iran will not be voting for Resolution I (Syrian Sanctions) or Resolution II (Iranian Sanctions). We feel that another round of sanctions will have no positive effect and will not work. Resolution II calls for Iran to “send in United Nations Inspectors to look at their nuclear program” or to face another round of sanctions. Iran has had many inspections from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Former IAEA Director General, Dr Mohammad El-Baradei, even stated that after 2,700 hours of inspection, “We have not come to see any undeclared activities or weaponisation of their program”. Iran clearly has nothing to hide and has already had an investigation carried out on its nuclear program.
Iran will also not vote Resolution I (Syrian Sanctions), because Syria is our ally and we do not support sanctions on them.
Iran will be voting for the Iranian and Syrian Resolution. We believe that the West is the cause of the tension in the Middle East. Removal of their weapons currently stationed in the Middle East should be removed immediately. This would greatly lower the tensions. Also if the West were to remove its weapons both Iran and Syria would be willing to distance themselves from Hezbollah.
