The Islamic Republic of Iran will not be voting for Resolution I (Syrian Sanctions) or Resolution II (Iranian Sanctions). We feel that another round of sanctions will have no positive effect and will not work. Resolution II calls for Iran to “send in United Nations Inspectors to look at their nuclear program” or to face another round of sanctions. Iran has had many inspections from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Former IAEA Director General, Dr Mohammad El-Baradei, even stated that after 2,700 hours of inspection, “We have not come to see any undeclared activities or weaponisation of their program”. Iran clearly has nothing to hide and has already had an investigation carried out on its nuclear program.
Iran will also not vote Resolution I (Syrian Sanctions), because Syria is our ally and we do not support sanctions on them.
Iran will be voting for the Iranian and Syrian Resolution. We believe that the West is the cause of the tension in the Middle East. Removal of their weapons currently stationed in the Middle East should be removed immediately. This would greatly lower the tensions. Also if the West were to remove its weapons both Iran and Syria would be willing to distance themselves from Hezbollah.

Topic: Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone in the Middle East
The General Assembly,
Reminding all nations that Iran and Syria as well are attempting to find a peaceful solution for the problems in the Middle East and that both Syria and Iran have signed the NPT,

Reasons New Sanctions Should not be Imposed on Iran
The following is from The Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran’s website. This is a condensed form of the article “Fact Sheets of Iran-US Standoff: Twenty Reasons against Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran”. It has been made significantly shorter and only the most vital points have been kept. The full article can be found at: http://www.campaigniran.org/casmii/?q=node/2093
1 . There is no evidence of a nuclear weapons program in Iran:
The US and its allies pressure Iran to prove that it is not hiding a nuclear weapons program. This demand is logically impossible to satisfy. 2,700 person-hours of inspection, have failed to produce a shred of evidence for a weapons program in Iran. And on August 27, 2007 the IAEA(International Atomic Energy Agency) announced that “The Agency has been able to verify the non-diversion of the declared nuclear materials at the enrichment facilities in Iran and has therefore concluded that it remains in peaceful use”. Former IAEA Deputy Director General for Safeguards, when asked the question if Iran was intent on building a nuclear bomb. He replied: "My impression is not. My view is based on the fact that Iran took a major gamble in December 2003 by allowing a much more intrusive capability to the IAEA. If Iran had had a military program they would not have allowed the IAEA to come under this Additional Protocol. They did not have to."
2. Iran 's need for nuclear power generation is real:
With Iran 's population of 70 million, and growing, nuclear energy is a realistic and viable solution for electricity generation in the country.
3. Enrichment of uranium for a civilian nuclear program is Iran 's right:
Every member of the NPT has the right to enrich uranium for a civilian nuclear program and is entitled to full technical assistance.
4. The hypocrisy of the West:
India has refused to sign the NPT(Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty) or allow inspections and has developed an atomic arsenal, but receives nuclear assistance from the US in violation of the NPT. Israel is a close ally of Washington , even though it has hundreds of clandestine nuclear weapons, has dismissed numerous UN resolutions and has refused to sign the NPT or open any of its nuclear plants to inspections. The US has refused to reduce its nuclear arsenal, in violation of Article VI of NPT. The US is also in breach of the Treaty because it is developing new generations of nuclear warheads for use against non-nuclear adversaries. Moreover, Washington has deployed hundreds of such tactical nuclear weapons all around the world in violation of Articles I and II of the NPT.
5. Iran is a peaceful country:
Iran has not threatened Israel or attacked another country. Iran has not invaded or threatened any country for two and a half centuries. The only war the Islamic Republic fought was the one imposed by Saddam's army, which invaded Iran with the backing of the US and its allies. When Iraq used chemical weapons, supplied by the West, against Iranian troops, Iran did not retaliate in kind. The track records of the US , Israel , the UK and France are very different. These so called “democracies” have a bloody history of invading other countries. Iran 's supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, has declared repeatedly that Iran will not attack or threaten any country. He has also issued a fatwa against the production, stockpiling and use of nuclear weapons and banned nuclear weapons as sacrilegious.
6. Sanctions are not effective:
Dr ElBaradei, the head of the IAEA, has said that more sanctions are counterproductive. Economic sanctions on Iran will harm the people of Iran , as they were devastating to Iraqis, resulting in the death of at least 500,000 children. Sanctions would not however bring the Islamic Republic to its knees. Instead, any kind of sanctions, including the so-called "targeted" or "smart" sanctions, are viewed by the Iranian people as the West's punishment for Iran 's scientific progress (uranium enrichment for reactor fuel). As sanctions tighten, nationalist fervor will strengthen the resolve of Iranians to defend the country's civilian nuclear program.

Breaking News
Earlier today, an agreement was reached regarding Iran’s nuclear fuel. The agreement calls for the shipment of 2,640 pounds of Low Enriched Uranium(LEU) to Turkey. After one year of storage in Turkey, Iran will get 265 pounds of 20 percent enriched uranium. This uranium will be used in a reactor that creates isotopes used for treating cancer. This agreement is similar to the agreement made with the West last October. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the agreement is “to the benefit of all nations who want to live freely and independently.” Ramin Mehmanparast, the Foreign Ministry spokesman, said “This shows that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons, but rather peaceful nuclear technology. Such interactions must replace a confrontational approach.” This agreement is a tremendous step forward; it proves Iran is not after nuclear weapons and that another round of sanctions on Iran would be pointless.

Reaction to White Papers
On Monday, May 10, 2010, the Turkish air base at Incirlik was bombed, and since then there have been multiple meetings to try to reach a resolution about what should be done. In response to the White Papers from the other countries of the United Nations, Iran has some mixed feelings. As stated before, Iran does not currently support the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. We do not intend to support it in the foreseeable future. We do not believe that Middle Eastern Countries should not be allowed to attain nuclear weapons. We fully support Egypt if it feels that it needs to develop nuclear weapons.
We are not pleased that the United States insists on keeping their troops in Turkey. They are the cause of tension in the Middle East. As Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stated earlier this year, “We tell them[The United States] that instead of interfering in the region's affairs, to pack their things and leave”. Any presence they have in the Middle East will only increase tensions and further complicate the situation.

Iranian White Paper Regarding the Attack on Incirlik Air Base
Executive Summary:
After examining the situation regarding the terrorist attacks on Incirlik Air Base, The Islamic Republic of Iran has decided that it would be best for Iran to not interfere and tamper with the situation at hand.
Key Points:
* Causes of Tension: It is clear that the United States is the cause for most of the tension in the Middle East. The attack on Incirlik was carried out because of the 90 American nuclear missiles housed there. A Hezbollah spokesman said that “Nuclear weapons are ours for the taking … if not already from Incirlik this week, then very soon”. The United States must stop interfering in the affairs of sovereign Middle Eastern nations.
* The Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty: We have and will insist on not signing on to this treaty. The treaty shows the hypocrisy in the United States, they want other nations to never acquire nuclear weapons, and meanwhile the United States is allowed to have thousands of nukes in its arsenal. As stated the in a speech given to the United Nations just several days ago, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stated that " the government of the US has not only used nuclear weapons, but also continues to threaten to use such weapons against other countries, including Iran”. It is unfair that the US and the other western nations are trying to scare us into signing on to the treaty, while Israel a country that actually has nuclear weapons is yet to agree to the treaty.
* In Our Defense: As we stated before at the UN Meeting, we do not condone of these attacks. We are shocked to hear that Hezbollah was the organization that carried these attacks out. While we do indeed provide minimal funding for the group we did not expect them to carry out an attack like this. We mainly fund Hezbollah because we believe that the cause they are fighting for is a righteous cause. As Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stated before Israel "is an illegitimate regime, there is no legal basis for its existence". It is unfair that the Palestinians were kicked out of their own land and the Jews were allowed to take it. We fund Hezbollah because of the fight against Israel We have no problems with Turkey and hope that this will not hurt our alliance.
* The Action to be Taken: We believe that another country interfering with the situation can only make it worse. Therefore we will let Turkey handle this situation on its own.

Reaction to U.N Conference
In response to the United Nations Meeting held yesterday, Iran would like stress the fact that we are here for Turkey. While we do not condone of their alliances with the west and particularly the United States, we still believe that Turkey deserves our help after the bombing that killed and wounded hundreds of people. We also believe that the US is the cause of a lot of the tension over nuclear weapons. This attack was carried out because of the 90 American nuclear missiles positioned at Incirlik.
Iran would also like to again emphasize the fact that we have no affiliation with the terrorists that carried out the attacks, nor do we condone them. The alliance between Iran and Turkey has been growing stronger, and we wish to help them in anyway possible. An investigation to uncover who was behind these attacks is being conducted. Cooperation with the West in the investigation is highly unlikely, but we still intend to discover the terrorist organization behind the bombings.
The Nonproliferation Treaty was also brought up at the UN meeting. The US has been pressuring Iran to sign the treaty. This shows the hypocrisy of America, they want a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East but they have 90 nuclear missiles at Incrilik. Even though Iran has no intention of acquiring nuclear weapons, we will not sign a treaty that allows the US to poses nuclear arms, but bars Iran from doing so.
